Panning in GarageBand iOS allows you to position audio tracks within the stereo field, making it sound as if they are coming from the left or right speaker. Here’s how you can pan left and right in GarageBand iOS:
Open your project, locate the desired track, and then tap on it to select it. Next, tap the fader icon at the top of the screen to bring up the mixer. Find the pan knob – a circle icon between the Track Volume and the Mute & Isolate buttons. Drag the pan knob left or right to change the panning.
How to Pan Your Tracks in GarageBand iOS
1) Open Your Project & Go Into Your Workspace
Launch GarageBand on your iOS device and open the project you want to work on. In GarageBand iOS, it’s called the “Tracks View,” but in the macOS version, it’s called the “Workspace.”
2) Highlight the Track
Tap on the track you want to pan. You can’t select more than track at a time, in case you’re wondering, although, you can modify several regions simultaneously.
3) Access the Mixer
Tap on the track settings icon, which looks like a mixer or a set of sliders. This is usually found on the left side of the track header in between the Microphone and FX options.
4) Find the “Track Pan” Slider
You’ll notice how there is no numerical value in GarageBand iOS, at least as far as I know. Unlike GarageBand macOS, which can be adjusted through numbers.
5) Adjust the Pan
Slide the pan control left or right to position the audio in the stereo field. Sliding to the left will move the audio to the left speaker, and sliding to the right will move it to the right speaker.
6) Listen and Adjust
Play your project and listen to how the panning affects the mix. Without question, the best way to do this is with higher quality headphones, rather than the built-in speaker on your device.
Speakers will also work. If you try using the speaker, you won’t be able to distinguish the difference that much, especially on an iPhone.
